The Happening star Mark Wahlberg is in Payne

A little movie news.

http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/entertainment/mark-wahlberg-set-to-star-in-max-payne_1004356.html

Shooting for the Twentieth Century Fox pic begins next year with John Moore in the director’s chair.

Whalberg is currently in talks to play the lead, a cop haunted by the tragic loss of his family and who has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders.

He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects.
Beau Thorne has penned the script for the movie, reports Variety.

On board as producer is Julie Yorn through Firm Films, as well as Scott Faye.

Wahlberg will make the film after he completes “The Lovely Bones” for director Peter Jackson and DreamWorks.

He recently starred for the studio in the M. Night Shyamalan-directed “The Happening,” which will be released next summer. (ANI)

FIlming Location

Sorry about the lack of filming updates. We have learned that they are filming still in Ridley Creek State Park in Newtown Square. On IMDB a posters says they will be there until Thursday a source says Wednesday.

Mark Mark has had another interview and here is an excpert:

Are you still doing The Happening?

Mark Wahlberg: Yeah. I'm still going to be shooting that for another week. Can you tell us a little bit about it?Mark Wahlberg: Yeah, I'm thrilled about it. It's a complete departure for me. I play a teacher, and Zooey Deschanel plays my wife. She's a therapist. The movie is really about our relationship and the conflicts we are having, set in this horrific disaster. Working with Night is awesome. I'm glad that I worked with him before I ventured off into directing. He brings a whole other element to the game. It's very impressive to see.

What is so different about M. Night as a director?

Mark Walberg: I haven't found a good way to describe it, but I can give you an example. We shot a five-page scene that was taking place in a classroom. Any other director that I have worked with would have taken three days to shoot it. We shot it by lunch. And it's beautiful. He just knows what he wants. It's all thought out. I've never walked into a trailer and the sides are there, and there are entire storyboards for the day. You know exactly what you'll be shooting. He knows exactly what he wants. It's been a great experience. You never know until your done. But it feels pretty special.

Why is this role so different for you?

Mark Wahlberg: I play a kind of nerdy science teacher from Philadelphia. I am very intimidated by my wife. And I can't connect outside of the classroom. I am the best teacher that you have ever seen. My students love me. I have this great connection with them, and I am extremely passionate about what I do. But I have some difficulties in other departments. Especially with my wife. I'm not the man that she wants me to be. I am extremely positive and optimistic, and she is the exact opposite. It's really about their relationship, which is great. You know, I did have a nightmare that Night and I got in a fight on the set.

Interview with Mark

CS: How are things going with M. Night Shyamalan’s next movie "The Happening?"Wahlberg:

It's happening. It's happening. No, I love working with Night [Shyamalan], I've never seen a filmmaker work so smoothly. And so prepared. First day, we had a scene that was probably five pages long, and I figured, well we'll probably do this for a good three or four days, and we were done by lunch. And I was like whoa. Okay. So I'm very glad that I never tried directing myself until I worked with Night. I think of all the guys that I've worked with, I think his is a style that I would really try to emulate.

CS: Are you allowed to talk about that movie at all?

Wahlberg: I'll just tell you the ending. (laughs) No, I play a science teacher, definitely a part that people will be extremely surprised that I decided to play. He's constantly reminding me of how I need to walk. No, that looks too tough, that looks too angry. You're a science teacher, you know. But I love it. It's really about the characters and their relationships, and there's this crazy thing that's happening. So I'm thrilled, we only have a week left. Probably one of the biggest movies I've been a part of, yet we're only shooting forty-four days. And the longest day has been a twelve-hour day, and the short days have been like eight, nine hours. And he gave away yesterday, for instance, that every Friday he gives away a trip for seven days in the Greek islands, to a crew member, a guy I think from the audio department won, and the week before somebody got a seven day trip somewhere else in the Caribbean, I'm like what's going on, man? It's a special experience. And I do whatever he wants me to do. Hopefully the end result will be satisfying. He's thrilled, I have a very good feeling about it.

CS: Did you go back to school to study how to be a teacher?

Wahlberg: Science was the only subject that I didn't take while taking my GED exam, so first thing I did when I got to Philly was I went to the Ben Franklin Institute, trying to do as much as possible. But there's very little stuff in the class. The class and stuff is really about showing his relationship and his connection to students. He's not the most adult teacher. His wife wants him to be more adult, she wants to be more like a kid, and he connects with his kids and he's great with his kids. It was a fun experience.

News Artical, Filming Location and set photo

From http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/michael_klein/20070925_Inqlings___Party__too__was_a_real_happening.html:
The Happening still has two more weeks of shooting left, but M. Night Shyamalan
and fellow filmmakers hosted the thriller's wrap party Saturday night. (The
idea: Celebrate while the entire cast is still in town.)
The several hundred
revelers at the TPDS party space in Washington Square West knew they were in for
something special, apart from the flutes of champagne that greeted them. Call it
a sixth sense.

Bruce Willis showed up.

Shyamalan (with wife
Bhavna) had invited Willis, his star of The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, to join
The Happening's crew and cast, including Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, Betty
Buckley and Robert Bailey Jr., plus producers Sam Mercer and Jose Rodriguez
(with wife Michelle). Shyamalan had black-and-white movies, including Citizen
Kane, playing on projectors to help set the mood, said TPDS's Delores Browne.
Willis and the Shyamalans closed the place.

The company yesterday struck
its set in Plumsteadville, Bucks County. Next stop will be Ridley Creek State
Park in Delaware County, followed by interiors on a soundstage at the Navy Yard
in South Philly.

They are filming on Sandy Flash Drive (North), Ridley Creek State Park in Newtown Square, Pa.

Also someone e-mailed me a set photo from Plumsteadville. It shows out favorite red Jeep with camera rigging on it.

Set Reports for Plubsteadville and JR Masterman

Set report number 1 from imdb.com:

Not that it's all that exciting, but since I work about 3 minutes from the
set I figured I'd drive by today and see what was going on. As someone else
mentioned, the road to the farm is completely blocked off at the Stump Road
intersection (didn't see the other end but I'm assuming it's the same) by cones
and 2 police cars. You can see a ton of activity at the site tho, including some
people walking around by the road, cranes, butterflies, and lots of trailers and
equipment trucks. So yeah, not that this exposes anything that new, but pretty
cool regardless.

Set report number 2 from imdb.com:
Right now a lot of equipment is set up off of Haring Road in
Plumsteadville, Bucks County. I drive by there on my way to class and I noticed
two cop cars blocked the road, but at the time I thought maybe there was just an
emergency or accident. My dad just told me yesterday though that they are
filming a movie with Mark Wahlberg and today there were these huge cranes with
large white rectangular things hanging down from them, and this could explain
the numerous limousines I have been seeing. It's pretty cool because I live two
minutes away. When M. Night Shyamalan was filming Signs around here, a little
girl in one of my mom's classes had her house used as one of the indoor sets. I
hope it will be a good movie.

Set report from the August shoot at the J.R. Masterman School in Philly, from imdb.com:

my school, j.r. masterman was one of the locations and some of the pictures
on here are right next to it. they used the band room and some of the projectors
from the library. i dont get it though, my school is pretty ugly hahaha. its the
best one in the tri state area so. yeah i just thought it was cool. cant wait to
see it.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE and much more!

I have been sitting on these for a few days. I looked back and these "screen caps" as our source calls them, they are supposedly from THE HAPPENING. The source says these scenes are being edited right now and will appear in the trailer which is due out "late fall or early winter". I've looked into the photos and these seem like real screen shots from the film.

They said in the next few weeks they will be getting some more captures from film and I will post them if the source e-mail them to me.
Also I found more YouTube video from the Phonixville G-Lodge shoot you can find it at the link posted:

Set Photos / Insider Info

Today I got some exclusive photos from The Happening set in Plumsteadville, Pa. The shoot was set at a farm house. The farm is near the corner of Haring and Stump Rds.

Here are some exclusive photos we took earlier today (click on the photos to make them larger):

A source on the set has told us that Mark Walhberg is filming on this set along with Zooey Dechanel. The source tells me that WPVI-TV or 6 ABC in Philly was at the farm today filming b-roll for their 6pm &11pm newscast. If this video is posted online I post a link on this blog. Also the source tells us that the scenes they are filming now are going to take place toward the end of the movie.

Found this on Philly.com:

Mark Walhberg and five pals at Davio's (111 S. 17th) for langostinos and
cheesesteak spring rolls, clams and antipasti. Wahlberg was nice to staff,
tipped well and said he hoped to make it back for a steak before he leaves town,
where he's shooting "The Happening."

Phoenixville / Drew Barrymore!?!?

Shyamalan hopes to rebound with new thriller

What seemed to be an average, quiet, hot and humid August night in Phoenixville, Pa. was anything but average. That's because hundreds of area citizens waited outside the G Lodge Restaurant in hopes of catching a glance of Mark Walhberg, star of M. Night Shyamalan's newest thriller, "The Happening."Several filming locations are taking place in the Philadelphia area including Rittenhouse Square, 30th Street Station, Julia R. Masterman School and the G Lodge restaurant in Phoenixville. The last time this level of excitement was seen in the sleepy town of Phoenixville was when Steve McQueen and company invaded to film the campy 50s horror film classic, "The Blob." In fact, that event was so remarkable that the town has an annual "Blobfest" just to commemorate the film and its significance to the area.

"The Happening" is a thriller about a teacher and struggling musician named Elliot Moore, played by Walhberg, and his family on the run from a natural disaster that presents a large scale threat to humanity. Aliens take control of the Earth's animals and plants in order to take over the planet. It appears to be the usual Shyamalan offering of adventure/thriller with a slightly twisted perspective.

In January 2007, Shyamalan traveled from Philadelphia to Hollywood to prepare a live-action film adaptation of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" an Emmy Award-nominated American animated television series that currently airs on Nickelodeon. Shyamalan then went to numerous studios submitting a sample script of a movie entitled "The Green Effect," but no studios showed enough interest in purchasing the script. Attempting to salvage the project, Shyamalan returned to Philadelphia with ideas and notes he collected from the various meetings.

In March 2007, Twentieth Century Fox greenlit Shyamlan's project, now entitled "The Happening." Shymalan and Barry Mendel are producing the $57 million film, which will be the director's first R-rated project. Besides the film's star, Walhberg, the cast consists of Betty Buckley, Spencer Breslin (who was in Disney's "The Kid," "The Santa Clause 2" and "The Cat in the Hat") and Zooey Deschanel, from "Almost Famous" and "Elf."An area native, Shyamalan clearly favors shooting his films in and around Philadelphia. "The Sixth Sense," his break-out hit, featured Philadelphia so prominently that it almost became a character in and of itself, lending it's unique architecture and ambience to the story of a boy who could "see dead people."

And part of the eerie nature of "Signs" was the juxtaposition of its rural Lancaster setting contrasted with the otherworldly alien invaders. The bucolic cornfields rustling with alien monsters made the possibility of alien invasion seem somehow more likely.

Wahlberg is no stranger to the area as well, having portrayed Philadelphia Eagle and local hero in the recent movie "Invincible." A Boston native, Wahlberg's mix of everyman charm and street-tough persona seems to make him a favorite with his Philadelphia fans. Wahlberg took the time while filming "The Happening" to greet fans, and remarked on how much he enjoys filming in the area. His career seems to be poised on the cusp of super-stardom, as he has earned box office popularity with movies such as "Invincible" and critical acclaim with roles in movies like "The Departed."

Critics have given "The Happening" mixed reviews, despite the fact that the movie has yet to be released. Whether or not this movie is going to be another hit like Shyamalan's previous movies "Signs" and "The Sixth Sense," or a bust like his last film 'The Lady in the Water" is still up in the air. You can see for yourself in the summer of 2008. And who knows, in a few years, one may be in Phoenixville for a "Happening Fest" and see Mark Wahlberg running out of the Colonial theater!"The Happening" is set to hit theaters Friday, June 13, 2008. With its star-power, "The Happening" looks to be a hit.

Artical from: http://media.www.wcuquad.com/media/storage/paper676/news/2007/09/17/Entertainment/Shyamalan.Hopes.To.Rebound.With.New.Thriller-2973405-page2.shtml

From Philly.com:

Barrymore drops by film shoot

The cast and crew of the M. Night Shyamalan film The Happening were shooting last week on a thousand-acre hay farm in Unionville, Chester County.

And who emerges from a car and shows up for lunch but Drew Barrymore?

The actress, bucolically chic in jeans and a white shirt, does not appear in the movie. She was taking a meeting with Happening producer Barry Mendel.

The locale may have seemed like the middle of nowhere, but the grub was urbane. It was sushi day.

The sci-fi movie, in its final three weeks of production, is headed to Upper Bucks County today after a brief stop near Pottstown.

Newspaper Set Report / Photos

ITS ALL "HAPPENING" AT A LOCAL FARM

by VICTOR GRETO

UNIONVILLE, Pa. -- "Base camp" at the set of the next M. Night Shyamalan movie, "The Happening," may be as inglorious as it gets.

Rows of white vans, RVs, trailers and portable toilets line the perimeter of a dirt and grass parking lot just off Pa. 82 in this tiny town, surrounded by rolling hills, hayfields and chirping crickets.

It's all for the film's 200 crew members and 50 extras, including star Mark Wahlberg -- just a small part of what $57 million, the purported budget for the movie, will buy you.
They're here, of course, not for the parking lot, but for the hundreds of contiguous acres that comprise Cuyler and Katie Walker's hay farm just up the road.

"It's beautiful here, iconic," said location manager and Kennett Square, Pa., resident Andrew Ullman. "There are a lot of visual choices. The storyline puts us in the middle of nowhere. You could get lost on their property."

That storyline, kept under wraps by the crew, involves a Philadelphia family on the run from an environmental disaster. Web sites have speculated about script details, including a "natural" epidemic of brutal mass suicide, provoked by airborne neurotoxins released by the planet's vegetation.

Evidently, the family abandons the city and finds its way to the Pennsylvania countryside.
Shyamalan, who made it big in 1999 with "The Sixth Sense," hasn't had a hit movie for several years. His last two movies, "Lady in the Water" and "The Village" sank with barely a trace.
Shyamalan's original script for "The Happening," which will be released in June 2008, had been rejected by several studios. After a rewrite, Twentieth Century Fox agreed to produce it.
As with his other movies, which have starred Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix, Shyamalan was able to sign a couple of big names.

Mark Wahlberg, star of "Boogie Nights," "The Italian Job," "Invincible" and "The Departed," plays a science teacher named Elliot Moore. His wife is played by Zooey Deschanel, who has had roles in "Almost Famous," "Elf" and "The Good Girl."

The movie also stars John Leguizamo and Betty Buckley.

Other Pennsylvania sites where the crew filmed include the 30th Street Station and Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, Phoenixville and Lower Merion, Pa.

"This area is critical to the story," Ullman said of the Brandywine Valley. "It's the turning point in the movie."

He provided no details.

Location scouts were at the Walker farm last April, said Katie Walker, who was hanging out in her house while the crew filmed on a "closed set" less than an acre away.

She had showed them around, she said, "because I thought it would be cool to have a movie in the area."

Shyamalan's crew had scouted the area for the 2002 movie "Signs," but for that movie, they were looking for cornfields.

The Walkers, who own about 1,000 acres, grow hay.

The filmmakers are paying the Walkers an undisclosed location fee for four days. They will be filming at the farm until Thursday. The movie, which has been filming since August, will end its shoot next month.

The crew had warned her of people wanting to come and watch, but none have tried, she said.
She has not seen any of Shyamalan's previous films.

Yesterday, behind the Walkers' house and up a wide expanse of long grass crawling with crickets, the crew was filming a scene.

"Rolling, quiet please!" someone shouted, and a train of actors, including Wahlberg and Deschanel, marched just beyond the ridge of a hill and nearly out of view.

At the end of the brief scene, the actors and crews walked back in the steaming heat, some twirling parasols, ready to eat a catered lunch before another humid afternoon of work.

Linfield Set Report

Today The Happening is filming in Unionville.

On IMDB.com someone posted a set report from yesterdays Linfield set:

They were shooting at a greenhouse that is literally RIGHT behind my moms
work!!! They had the road closed, but by the time i got there they were all
gone. My best friend works like less than a minute away from my mom at a deli
and they had all the trailers and stuff across the road at a church, so they
came in to her work for lunch! She wasnt working bc we were at school but one of
the guys she worked with said that when the people came in for lunch they told
him they would tell Mark to come in, but he never did. But other production guys
came in later and she waited on them. I was so jealous! i was like WHy did i
quit?!! haha! I know theyre coming back bc an older couple came into the deli
and said they were filming in there barn soon, but they didnt know the exact
date. they said probably tomarrow. Sry that i rambled im just really excited!!!
I really wanted to see mark!!!!

Filming Locations/Press

This is the address of Tuesdays staging area. The set should be fairly near by.

Linfield National Golf Course

Linfield, PA 19468

At work this morning I was reading the paper (on company time, wouldn't have it any other way) and found this:

M. Night Shyamalan is going for his first-ever R rating with his new film, The Happening, and people on both sides of City Avenue could see why.

Shyamalan and company staged a death scene and a bloody car crash Tuesday for the thriller about a family on the run. The crew erected large screens on 69th Street near City Avenue in the Overbrook Farms section to shield the curious from the "deaths." Still, one passenger aboard a SEPTA bus seemed stunned at the scene, which made graphic use of lifeless stuntmen.

Later on, in Wynnewood, a speeding jeep occupied by John Leguizamo was filmed crashing into a tree on Andover Road where it splits to Allendale Road and forms a grassy island popular among dogs. The tree was a prop, and the "wrecked" jeep was suspended by cables and pulleys. On crew members' way out, they planted flowers and spruced up the knoll.

Wednesday found the company in Center City on Smedley Street near Pine. Liz Sieber, who owns the boutique Omoi nearby, reports a jingling cash register while Shyamalan and star Mark Wahlberg were out front. Shyamalan bought a hat and gave it to a crew member, Sieber says, and costar Zooey Deschanel bought string dolls. Thursday and Friday, the crew filmed on Rittenhouse Square.

With that, The Happening is out of the city and off to the suburbs (including Pottstown and West Chester) for the duration. Twentieth Century Fox has set a June release date.

Friday filming location / Set Photo / CBS 3 Clip / The Lovely Bones

The crew is back at Rittenhouse Square and the surrounding area again tomorrow.

New Photo from Joshua:

On IMDB.com someone posted this set report:

Was there all day today - they shot a traffic scene with a cop and a taxi driver (who actually looked a bit like a young Christopher Lloyd) at 18th and Rittenhouse Ave, a small backstreet behind the Square. I hung around and ended up as a background extra before being tossed because I had a crummy Phillies T-Shirt on. The people were cool, they figured I just got caught up in the mass of people - no security until M. Night showed up - set locked down then. They had a big crane shot and several POV shots on the Southeast corner of Rittenhouse Square. Very cool.

CBS 3 (KYW-TV) did a story on The Happening today here is the link http://cbs3.com/entertainment/local_story_243134619.html

I got these photos from Charlie via e-mail:

^Rittenhouse Sqaure

^Mark Wahlberg at Pine & Smedley

^Mark and M. Night

This is from IMDB.com:

In Rittenhouse now. I saw Marky and M.Night yesterday filming on Pine St. It is interesting at first but sooo repetitive. They shot the same 15 seconds about 10 times over 40 minutes. Absolute perfectionists. One shot was scrapped when the sunlight changed a bit. In another, it seemed that the school bus was late for its cue.

In the park, dozens of extras are holding still as a boom camera pans over them, then someone (a real chcaracter?) falls down on the ground. Bizarre to watch. Even more bizarre because I walked through the scene before I recognized I was in the shot.
